PlayStation 1

Did you know that the PlayStation logo was designed by Manabu Sakamoto, who also designed the logo for Sony's VAIO computer products.

The original PlayStation, often referred to as a PS1 launched in 1994 and now considered a classic. However, did you know that there really was a PlayStation One console released in the year 2000 which actually outsold the newly released PS2 for a short while? At around the same time Sony also released an LCD screen which could be attached to the unit for mobile game playing or while sitting in the back of a car.

There were three major differences between the PS one and the original console, the first one being a cosmetic change to the unit, the second was the home menu's GUI Interface and the third being added protection against the mod-chip by changing the internal layout and making previous-generation mod-chip devices unusable.

The PS one also lacks the original PlayStation's serial port, which allowed multiple consoles to be hooked up for multi-TV multiplayer. The serial port could also be used for an external mod-chip, which may have been the real reason why it was removed.
